Technology

Technology is a gadget or anything that is use to make life easier in modern days. It is has a great effect on young people today and can be dangerous sometimes. It may have effects on adults to.

Some examples of technology are computers, games, vehicles, television, cell phones, internet and music players.

Computers have a great effect on young people today. Most children use computers and the internet to do many things. Some use it for homework, for future jobs so they must learn how to use it for it is useful. As of today children at secondary schools do subject that deals with computers which is information technology.

How ever there are bad effects of computers. When we around computers for a very long time especially in the night it may cause our eyes to strain which may cause eye problem. Our youth today tense to love the internet and join certain web pages like facebook and twitter etc. Which they join because their friends or other people are joining them. This may cause our youth today to get distracted from school and become addicted. The internet may also cause violence and crimes. Someone may post up a lie on the internet about you which is gossip. That person may get so angry willing to fight that’s where violence comes in. Also young people interesting in dating may meet someone on the internet who may have asked them to meet them some where at a certain time or place. They may have come but you did not expected to meet someone really older than you. They may kidnapped or rape then kill you that’s where crime comes in.

There are all kind of games today for our youth. There are fashion games and brain teasing games. Fashion games may help us look forward for our future jobs like fashion designers, seamtress or tailors. Brain teasing games helps our youth to work their brain, to see how smart you are and increasing their knowledge.

Television is a good device because it gives us news that is happening around the world; regionally and internationally. It can use to entertain us like comedy movies.

How ever televisions can also strain the eyes if we are to close to it for long tome.

Cell phones have a great effect in communicating. Communicating is very good for us to communicate with our love ones and friends faster than by letter writing and good also for jobs.

How ever cell phones have bad effect I heard on the news that a lady almost died because of “cell phones .” She was walking with her husband and son when she received a text message. She began walking and texting not noticing how close she was at the edge of a wall where water was below. It was very steep and the water was far down. As she took one step back she fell into the water. Her cell phone was destroyed and she almost died. Her son and husband jumped down to help her but the still needed help and was rescued by coast guards.

Music players can be very useful for young people today. Some young people find music calms them down and entertains them as well.

However music players may cause some young people to want it although their parents cannot afford it and some may involve themselves in homosexuality and prostitution. The purpose of the music players is to play music so certain young people today listen music with negative influence and may loose focus of their school work and become very disrespectful.

We need technology but again we can live without it. We need it for money. More teachers are employed when they teach information technology.

Companies that sell music players and cell phones make money. Cell phones are more reliable in terms of its accuracy when communicating rather than writing a letter for instance your relative may die and your brother and sister are over seas and did not know about the death. Using cell phones you can tell them within less than five minutes. We need transportation to reach our destinations whether its school.

We can live without computers and the internet and use our resources at the library and even in books at home.

Instead of playing games on a device we can play hand games and book games example puzzles which help to develop the brain and keep it active.

In my opinion technology is definitely useful like cell phones vehicles and the internet but our use of it determines the outcome. The internet is not really necessary but school children today have assignments that they may need to research on the internet for. Children should however be supervised while using the internet to avoid the use of pornographic website.

Cell phones should be used only for communicating and not in the streets unless it’s an emergency.

Homsexuality and young people

I do believe that it is possible for males and females to experience strong sexual love and care deeply for members of their same sex, but that does not change the fact that it is fundamentally wrong.

We live in a homophobic society. A society where, two men are not allowed to sit together in the passenger seats at the front of a bus, a society where male “closeness” is frowned upon. However, this homophobia seems to be directed only at the male populace since it is more socially acceptable for females to be close and “touchy-touchy”. From my observations, homosexuality is no longer viewed as an abominable sin among our youths; instead it seems to be more of an alternative option of sexuality or a means of getting easy money or material gain.

On my day to day travels out into our small society, I have noticed that the interaction of our young people amongst themselves has changed. In my day, it was quite normal for young women to walk about arm in arm and holding hands while the young men maintained a comfortable distance from each other. Presently, it has gone past that. Young women are no longer merely holding hands but are now touching each other intimately in public. On more than one occasions, I have seen school girls, in uniforms, in public places touching each other on the chest area and groping at other private areas, while the school boys look on jeering vulgar words of encouragement. This has led me to believe that the young ladies are not engaging in same sex sexual activities because they are indeed “gay” but because they believes it defines them as a sexual being and makes them more appealing to the members of the opposite sex. The media also plays a big part in the influence of our young women towards same sex intimacy. On a daily basis, our youths are being bombarded with images and scenes of “girl on girl action” on the television and internet, often portrayed by their favorite celebrities and icons. As a result of this, same sex intimacy among females is now viewed by our young people as not only acceptable but good.

The influence of the young men differs from that of the young ladies because it has never been and probably will never be acceptable for guys to be intimate with each other in our society. Despite this, homosexuality among men seems to be a rising trend. From what I have gathered, the older men of our society are enticing the younger men into homosexual activities with promises of money and expensive material things. The young men now look at this as an opportunity for easy money and would engage in these discreet sexual acts with men in order to “floss” the latest gears.

In my opinion, young people who truly believe that they are homosexuals would not be comfortable with openly advertising their status in this sort of opposing society. Their sexual orientation would not be the result of the media, a need for attention or material gain. Rather, it would be the result of some kind of sexual, emotional or mental abuse or confusion, or the lack of self worth or self confidence with members of the opposite sex or even a misguided view on love and intimacy. However, regardless of how acceptable and legal homosexuality become in societies, it is and would remain wrong and sinful until the end of our world as we know it.

The effects of technology on young people

What is technology? Technology is any device that we use to do certain things. We as humans use technology every day to complete task or just have fun.

In St. Vincent we have many different forms of technology, such as television, desktop computers, laptops, MP3s, iPods, iPads, Kindles and cell phones especially the Blackberry. With technology we can do mostly whatever we please whether it’s in a game or on our phones. There are many games which allow us to live another life or be whatever we want. On our phones we are able to message or talk to people that could be miles away. Technology can also be car’s and mini buses which we use daily to get to our desired destinations.

Technology has many advantages. To name a few, there are: better communication, research information, news and entertainment. Better communication is important so we could keep in touch with friends and loved ones and stay up to date. The advantage of research helps us in school work and increases our knowledge. News and entertainment can help us keep ahead in all the latest trends such as fashion.

There are as many disadvantages as there are advantages -- gossip, distraction from school work, health problems and other social problems. I would like to start with gossip. Gossip could be anything but mostly it’s negative. Gossip is also rumors which are not true and can badly damage people. Gossip and rumors can be quickly spread through Blackberrys and Facebook . Technology has a way of being a distraction to children and even big people. Children are often distracted by cell phones which sometimes take over their school work. And for adults they could be driving and texting which could cause a fatal accident. Health problems through technology are caused by continued looking at the screen of a phone, computer or TV which can damage the brain and eyes.

People who don’t have the money to buy a phone or computer would often sell drugs or have sex for money instead of getting a job. When they do this, other social problems are formed, including stealing, pregnancy, drug abuse and violence.

I think that some people are better off without technology which is not very important because people from long ago did not have it and they succeeded without it, so can the children of this present time.

Technology's effects

Technology is good and it is bad the sense of communication, research and entertainment.

With communication, we can interact with families and friend and family from near and far countries. For communication we can use devices such as the telephone/ cellular phone, and the internet (facebook, msn). With the internet you can carry out large businesses that use the internet to store large copies of important documents.

Despite the advantages of technology, there are several disadvantages that are followed such as addiction.

Addiction is known as a habit or custom that is difficult to get rid of. Another is distraction, which is when you cannot focus on your work and doing the thing you like most such as being on your BBM or facebook.

Effect of technology can be very harmful to the human body. Listening to music at a high volume can damage your eardrums. Another is surfing the internet. This can be dangerous mostly to teenagers, in the way of teenagers searching porn sites. This can lead to youths have sex at a very young age and lead to the circumstances of low self- esteem or H.I.V.

In my opinion, technology is useful and it is also dangerous but you have to know how to and how not to use it.

Music Brainwashing Youths?

The music industry is one of the most powerful and effective industries in our world today. Music dates back all the way to B.C. years. There are many genres such as pop, gospel, reggae, blues, rock, dancehall, soca, and the list goes on. No two sectors are the same, they may be similar in some instances but NOT identical. With all these differing types of music it may be safe to conclude that everyone is a music junkie at heart. This being said, we must now take a look into the music industry, at the people who create and sing the songs.

What goes on in the minds of music producers and singers? Do they wish the message they convey to be positive or negative? It is almost impossible to tell due to the unique qualities of the human mind. No two minds think alike therefore leaving room for different interpretations of lyrics.

Music can either have a positive or negative effect on youths. One advantage of music is that it is an excellent way to pass time. Music is a key form of entertainment and has been for numerous years. Not only can you pass time listening to and dancing to it, you can also write music.

Music can also be manipulated into a learning device. Placing lessons to music and a tune in the form of a song has been proven to be an excellent learning method. It makes the material easier to relate to, remember and enjoy.

Music can also inspire and steer young people to pursue a career in the music industry.

One may argue that music promotes the opposition to knowledge; which leads the young people to become obtuse and unlearnt.

Some forms of music contain derogatory comments concerning women. Some lyrics are also pure nonsense that can neither harm nor do well to the listeners.

The solution to dealing with negative music affecting youths is to find ways to occupy themselves constructively. If they have work to do there is no time to daydream and about getting rich overnight or be influenced by music artist telling them negative ways to do so. We can also promote gospel music and find new ways of making it exciting and interesting for youths.

Basically, music can be both positive and negative. It all depends on who you are, what you like and where you come from. There is no real way to control what is produced but you CAN filter what you listen to.

Effects of the music industry on youths

Music is a universal thing, it lives through the generations, it started long ago as beating drums and singing. There are many different forms such as hip hop, soca, R&B, Gospel and many more.

Music influences many youths, for some youths they cannot go a day without listening to music because it has become an important thing in their lives. Music influences people in many different ways such as it may lead you into violence, suicidal thoughts, or it can also help you.

Some of the most influential people in the music industry are carrying music down into a black hole. Music back in the days was loved by everyone because it related to them in some way, but now the music we listen to promotes violence and sex and other things. In the Caribbean some of the biggest artists like Vybz Kartel, Popcaan and Movado have the biggest influences on the youths. Most of their songs speak about violence, discriminating women and sex, it puts images in the mind of the youths as women useless clothes and you can wear them and throw them down when you’re finished. All this violence, sex and other things sung by the musicians are corrupting the minds of the youths who will lead the world in the future.

This teaches us about inappropriate stuff such as alcohol, marijuana and cocaine. It teaches the young people that weed and the other drugs are OK.

The only way you can get away from the negativity is by trying to listen to gospel songs. Finding different activities to pass time instead of music, and sharing things with other friends and have fun.
