Ackward Reality

By Lenecia Johnson

I closed my eyes feeling drenched in tiredness, rubbing one of the buttons on my waist coat.  Soon there was just the residue of sound brushing across my ears.  My mind sunk deeper and deeper leaving everything silenced but my heart beat.  After 10 minutes, there was a gut wrenching scream and the smell of blood, and now my feet were 2 seconds apart running past cubicles, and there was no question that the scream came from my friend Jennifer.  I hid in one of the cubicles under the desk, hugging my feet, silently breathing rapidly hoping no one, meaning the killer or at least I thought it was a killer, would find me.
All hope left when a pair of feet appeared by the desk.  I could tell that he knew I was there, because he smelt my fear.  The desk suddenly flipped and crashed into the other cubicles around it.  He said my name, but it was no longer the voice of the one I loved.  Instead, to me, it was the voice of a killer.  The last echo left with the loudest finish when he said my name.  It shook me out of my sleep and I was with reality again. No wonder it was so strange, I was dreaming.  When I looked up, I saw the familiarity of a kitchen, then I remember that I was in the lunch room at work, feeling drenched with tiredness, and I had closed my eyes drifting into deep sleep.  I went downstairs, adrenaline rushing and my heart pumping, no longer a slave to sleep and tiredness.

ABUSE /HEAP By Jessica Charles

What is abuse:                                                                                                                                                         Child sexual abuse is hurting a child sexually by touching them inappropriately and having sex with that child.
That is wrong.
Why child sexual abuse is wrong:                                                                                                                                   Child sexual abuse is wrong because it can make the child have a low self-esteem and it can make them not want to interact with people; it can destroy their futures.
How does child sexual abuse hurt that child:                                                                                                       Child sexual abuse is destroying their confidence making them think negative thing about themselves and others.
Consequences
I believe if you are found abusing someone verbally, sexually and emotionally you should be put in jail for a long period of time or you even should be put to death.
How to stop it:                                                                                                                                                                If you are an abuser and you want to stop it, just see a counselor or someone you believe can help you or who you trust.
Remember: Help Eliminate Abuse Please (H.E.A.P). Say ‘NO’ to abuse and stop the violence.
                                                      THANK YOU

Do you realize the hurt that you are inflicting on a child by abusing him or her through your sexual, physical, verbal and emotional abuse?
Now, because of your behavior towards that child, he or she will lack self confidence, and also feel loneliness.
This can lead to suicide, or in some cases can create a cycle that will often be carried down for generations; but we can help stop child abuse by educating the public about child abuse.
I believe child abusers should be sent to jail for a very long time.
And kids, for your own benefit, if you are being abused; physically or sexually, tell someone who you can trust and who can help.
Child Abuse has to stop!

Children you have the right to be protected from all abuse!!! By Noela Gurley

Adults: abusing your child or children won’t solve any problems; it only creates more problems.
Abuse is any sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical contact that may result in the hurting of a child.
When you abuse a child you are destroying that child’s chance of enjoying their childhood; They lose that special  time of their life.
You are trampling that child’s rights and may put that child through emotional distress and destroy their self-esteem.
The child may no longer find life worth living, and because of the hurt the child may find it difficult to trust others and also cause them to hurt their bodies and seek love in the wrong places
To every action there is a reaction!
For the abuser, child abuse has its consequences: you can end up in prison.
Child abuse needs to be stopped.
The victims of child abuse need to speak out, it’s not okay to just sit and allow child abuse to take place. You can talk to someone you trust.

H.E.A.P - By Meisha Gumbs

 Cancel Child abuse!
Put a stop to child abuse
When you abuse a child you are making them feel miserable and hurt, and that child’s life would be affected in negative ways.
Child abuse hurts the child by destroying his or her self-esteem, their potential to do good things and their confidence. This can make the victim feel like they are not important and could cause them to attempt to do wrong things and hurt themselves.
It is wrong to abuse children because the abuser is destroying the child’s life and is putting them at a disadvantage to have a happy childhood.
I strongly believe that a stop can be put to child abuse.
I would like more serious consequences to be brought on abusers.  I think that child abusers should be charged a fine and also be placed in prison for twice the time they are given.
ABUSE IS NOT RIGHT AND CAN BE STOPPED.

Gone to soon, Rest in Peace

That’s what little nine year old Joan John’s tombstone read.
It all started five years ago at the age of four.
Susan, Joan’s mother married to Tom and then it all began.  Tom sexually abused Joan, and after that, he would physically abuse her so she won’t tell her mother and if he got angry for anything even if Joan did nothing.
Scared and confused, Joan had no clue what was going on in her own little world; all she knew was that it was wrong and she was being hurt.
But because she was scared and afraid she kept it to herself; her friends could no longer touch or talk to her.
Miss Jack, her class teacher, became very concerned and tried investigating the matter, but Joan remained silent. She then tried to come in contact with Susan, but Susan refused to see or speak to her.
Every time, the abuse got worse.
Then one day, Tom repeated his regular routine with Joan.  After he was through having sex with her, he went in his room to watch cricket, but his team lost.  He became so angry; he went into Joan’s room where she was trying to play with her toys.  Tom raged got the best of him and he took her up and began beating her and threw her to the floor and she hit her head.
Joan was now on the ground fighting for life.
She lost.
If Joan had only spoken to her teacher maybe she would have been alive today.
If you are being abused, or know anyone who is being abused, there is always someone you can talk to.
If you are abusing your child or step-child there is someone one who can help you.
Your life or someone’s life may be at risk if you remain silent.
Speak up; Stand up for your rights.

Child abuse By Seliscia Toby

Child abuse is defined as any action that intentionally harms or injures a child physically, emotionally or by mistreatment or neglecting them.

Child abuse is more than bruises and broken bones. While physical abuse has visible signs, other types of abuse such as emotional abuse or child neglect leave deep, long lasting, invisible scars.

All types of child abuse and neglect can have long lasting effects throughout a child’s life; it can damage a child’s ability to have healthy relationships and ability to function at home, at work and at school.

Child abuse can cause:

*Lack of trust and relationship difficulties (if you can’t trust your parents, teachers etc. who can you trust?)

*Feelings of being “worthless” or “damaged” (if you’ve been told over and over again as a child that you are stupid or no good, it is very difficult to overcome these feelings.

* Trouble controlling emotions.
Abused children cannot express emotions properly. As a result their emotions get stifled and may come out in unexpected ways; an abused child could become an abuser.

Here are some ways to detect and help eliminate child abuse:

1) Act on your suspicions, if you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, trust your instinct.

2) Be aware of unexplained injuries. Not unusual burns or bruises in the shape of objects or unconvincing explanation of a child’s injuries.

3)   Notice Changes in behavior.

4) Be observant.

5) Educate the general public.

6) Encourage abused children to speak out.

Be a loving parent, children need to know that they are special and loved and capable of following their dreams.
Help a friend, neighbor or relative. Being a parent isn’t easy. Offer a helping hand to take care of the children so the parent (s) can rest or spend time together.

Promote programs in school. Teaching children, parents and teachers prevention strategies that can help to keep children safe.

Monitor your child’s television and video viewing. Watching violent films and T.V programs can harm young children and encourage them to harm others.

Volunteer at a local child abuse prevention program.

Report suspected abuse or neglect if you have a reason to believe a child has or may be harmed, call your local department of children and family services or the police.

Stop Child Abuse!
Child Abuse can be defined as mistreating a child for any unacceptable reason.
Child abuse can be Physical, Emotional, Verbal or Sexual.
Child abuse hurts the child because it can destroy the child’s future, it damages the child’s mind and the rights of the child are being taken away.
There are various consequences of child abuse; it can cause pain or death to the child and may result in a prison sentence for the abuser.
In my opinion I think there are a number of things that can be done in order to eliminate child abuse in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, due to the fact that the reported cases of child abuse are increasing each year.
*The abuser and victim can get help by speaking to trustworthy people.                                                           *Centers should be in place for the child (victim)                                                                                                    *There should be very serious penalties for the child abuser to face.
If you are being abused please don’t stay silent- speak out; it will be better for YOU. Adults, you should stop abusing children.

Abuser and Intension of Being an Abuser By Danielia Mason

Listen!
If you grew up in an abusive home that does not mean that you have to end up being a child abuser.
The cycle of child abuse has to stop now because it is destroying the future of others.
WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?
Child abuse is when a person or persons take advantage of children, keeping them in hurt and in pain, whether it is sexually, physically, verbally or emotionally.
In case you did not know, neglecting is also a form of child abuse.

HOW DOES A CHILD FEEL WHEN HE OR SHE IS HURT?
Child abuse hurt children by destroying their lives by lowering their self-esteem. This can have a life-long effect on that child.

WHY IS CHILD ABUSE WRONG?
Child abuse is wrong because it puts the child’s life in misery. They might not be able to walk the streets in peace because other people might be there calling them names. children may also lose their lives through abuse.

CONSEQUENCES
I think an abusive person should be put in prison or somewhere where they will feel embarrassed for what they had done to the child.

HOW TO STOP CHILD ABUSE
All abusers and persons who think that they want to be an abuser or think of themselves as an abuser should see a counselor as often as possible until they find themselves not abusing or wanting to abuse children.
You can also stop child abuse by taking a stand and let the abuser know that you have been a victim for too long and it is time for you to see yourself out of this situation and live a free life; and become a normal, happy, healthy child, just as God created us as his own children.

I am taking a stand to be free from abuse. Let’s all take a stand and stop child abuse today.

HELP ELIMINATE ABUSE PLEASE (H.E.A.P IT UP) By Jason Doyle

STOP THE ABUSE NOW! CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE.
CHILD ABUSE IS WHERE YOU ARE TOUCHING AND MAKING A CHILD FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE.
CHILD ABUSE WILL HURT THAT CHILD BY MAKING THEM DEVELOP LOW SELF WORTH, LOW SELF CONFIDENCE AND THEY CAN ALSO DEVELOP MENTAL ILLNESS.
CHILD ABUSE IS WRONG.  IT IS HARMFULL TO THE CHILD.
IT HURTS THEIR FEELINGS, AND THEY WILL HAVE THE MEMORIES OF THE ABUSE AS THEY GET OLDER.
I BELIEVE THAT APART FROM PUTTING THE ABUSER IN PRISON, THEY SHOULD BE PUT TO DEATH ACCORDING TO WHAT TYPE OF ABUSE IT IS.
SOME WAYS TO STOP ABUSE OF CHILDREN ARE:
1. PROVIDE SAFE ENVIROMENTS FOR THEM WHO ARE IN DANGER TO GO.
2. TEACH YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN FORM A YOUNG AGE WHAT ARE APPROPRIATE AND INAPPROPRIATE TOUCHES.
